Archie Comics

Archibald 'Archie' Andrews, is a rather, well known, comic character, in, American households. For those, growing up, Americanista [Materialist], the Archie Digest, was one, of the more important reads, for an Americanista child. Archie comics, is set, in Yankee land. It tells, the story, in many editions, of Archie, Veronica, Betty, Reggie, Jughead, and some other, of their friends [Big Moose for instance], in the rather, fictional, Riverdale High. I happened, to be browsing, through Wiki recently, and, came across, something, interesting, having to do, with Archie. Apparently, some folks, evil I believe, decided, to make, an Archie movie. The whole premise, of the movie, is that, all these, supposedly, happy teens, living in the small town of Riverdale, grow up, to become, somewhat ruined folks. Even Veronica, ends up, rather messed up; people always saw her, as a go-getter, of some kind. Its the most, disastrous, recounting, of an Archie telling, and I won't speak about it [hopefully, someone with a conscientious heart, at the Library of Congress, will hear about it] but the whole movie, appears, to have got it all wrong, about, these kids. The movie, kinda believes, that these kids, were really, popular kids, and according to the movie, wound up, living disastrously, while apparently, all, the 'loser' kids, in Riverdale High, got great jobs, and great lives. This is not, truly accurate, and Archie and friends, were never, truly, popular kids, but simply, lived, greatly fun lives, based around, the Ascetic, Archie Andrews.

Many might find it hard, to believe, that Archie, was an Ascetic; but thats what, he really was. Asceticism, is kinda something, not known, too well, by others. At its heart, its all about, seeking, inner peace. And unknown, to many, Archie, kind of found, nearly, all his friends, to be somewhat, crazy. One will, for instance notice, that all his friends, act, very much freely, when around, Archie. They believe, they can say, anything to him, anyhow, without, any feelings of remorse. And Archie, is kinda, always running about, kinda freely, escaping, all these people, he believes, to be crazy. Veronica, sees Archie, as someone, she can easily, push around. Betty, views Archie, as a kind, of psychiatrist. Reggie, believes really, he can bully Archie, as he sees fit. Jughead, kind of views Archie, as someone, he can say, the most, queerest of things to, with no fear, of judgment. To Archie, all this, are signs, of a truly, crazy world. And if one, attempts, to feel Archie, at any one moment, you will find, that he is always, trying, to escape, his 'friends', and be, totally alone. And a whole, existence, is born, of just about, any of these 'friends', asking: "where in sams hell, is Archie Andrews?"

America, is kinda reknowed, for the many, subcultures, that kind of, spring up, just about, every decade. American culture [not pop culture really], is rather volatile, and subject, to all kinds, of interesting changes, that have people, outside, America, wanting, to live, in America. It is a, phenomenon, not too easy, to explain, how subcultures, spring up, in American culture, while, in other parts of the world, subcultures, are almost, inexistent. Yet you still find, that the Media, has somewhat, mangled, peoples views, of the development, of American culture; by this, I mean, that most people, just don't know, how America, developed, through the past decades. They have, a very false impression, and picture, of what, America, has really been like, through, the decades, believing, what they see, in the Media, to be correct. Some, probably read, Archie comics, and wonder, what that is all about, not knowing, thats really how, Americans [Americanos really], once lived. To some unbelieving folks, Archie comics, is very much how, the American north, looked like, in the 70's.

How, American culture, has transvered, might surprise some. However, examples, are due, really, to explain, this point. Many believe, the American, 30's and 40's, to have been similar, to what you see, in, 'The Legend of Bagger Vance', or, in Madonnas, 'Evita'. They believe, thats how, the 30's and 40's, in America looked like; they did not. The 30's, and 40's, in America, looked very much like, what you see, in, The Aviator, and, The Good Shepherd (with Matt Damon), respectively. The 50's, in America, looked like, what you see, in, 'Catch me if you can'. Very different, from what you see, in the print media, about, Americas 50's. Most, totally believe, they know, how, Americas 60's, looked like; they think, they looked like, what you see, in, Blow (with Johnny Depp). In truth though, the 60's, looked very much like, what you see, in Waynes World 2 (personalities and design). The 70's, are the most, misunderstood, of all, the recent, American decades, as many, have no true idea, how, the 70's, in America, actually looked liked. The American 70's, as known by many, through the Media, was actually, the mythical creation, of Charles Bronson, and a few others. What sometimes, the Media, represents, as having been, the American 60's, such as what you see, with Archie comics, actually happened, in the 70's. A good movie, showing, how the American 70's, pretty much looked liked, is, 'Pirates of Silicon Valley' [look out for fooling, and dream issues]. The 80's, are pretty well known, looking like, what you see, in most, American, 80's, comedy, TV shows. The 90's, on the otherhand, looked liked, what you see, in, 'Reality Bites'.

In summary really, what is been said, is that, one should remember, American media, to be partly, about entertainment, and is not, always, wholly accurate.

All in all, to conclude all this, lets once more, give a big hand, to, Archie, Veronica, Betty, and of course, the incorrigible, Reggie Miller:
