African Spirituality: Lost Tradition

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over
the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering
over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there
was light.

The above passage, is pretty much known, to just about anybody, who has ever bothered, to open up, a Bible. It does not have, much meaning to most, but most believe, thats kinda how, the world was created, in seven days, by God. The other theory, is the big bang theory, which sounds, just as incredible.

African spirituality, is not known to many, who believe it, to very much be, like, Ancient Egyptian spirituality, which in truth, is the basis, of Asian spirituality. Ancient Egyptian spirituality, was all about, becoming, truly enlightened. You also have, Native American, spirituality, which has been made, popular, by physicists, such as David Bohm, and is all about, seeing reality, from the perspective of, Quantum physics, and Holographic realities. African spirituality differs, and is best explained, by the biblical passage, above. To understand this, one has to understand Africa better, especially, when it comes, to nightfall. The African night, is not similar, to other nights, out there. When night falls, in Africa, it feels, very much, like a void. People don't know this. When one, is in a void, one feels, as if, their memories, have been, blacked out. The African night, is crazy, in that, one feels themselves, blinded, and can barely see, anything. Thats kinda how, a void is, total darkness. Carl Jung, a Swiss intellectual, once spoke about, what he called, the Unconscious. The Unconscious, he modeled, was very much, water based, and was said, to be the source, of our dreams. In reality, the Unconscious, is what connects us, to the 4 elements, of air, water, fire and earth. When night falls, in Africa, what one really experiences, are the feelings, of being lost. They kinda feel, life, to be totally meaningless. When ones memories, are blocked, due to being, in a void, they often see, others, as looking, and being, very strange. Its easy, to forget, peoples names, in the African dark. Many African cultures, have traditionally, dealt with this, by telling, scary stories, to make everything else, out there, look normal. However, in the African night, when ones memories, are blocked, and ones senses, are hampered, due to the nature, of the land itself, what gets really activated, is ones imagination. People, become frightful, easily, in the African night. One hears, a small sound, and they jump easily, and even high. When ones imagination, is activated, what many tend, to mostly imagine, are their nightmares, dreams, hopes, and hates. This is where, African spirituality, originates from. In order, to deal, with this, active imagination, in a time, when electricity, was very much unknown, in Africa, Africans, practised, African spirituality. This spiritual practise, was easy to explain. They simply, projected, their nightmares, and the likes, onto, the elements. Their nightmares, were projected, onto water; their dreams, onto air, their hopes, onto fire and their hates, onto earth/serpents. Africans, have a tradition, of kinda hating, certain serpents, and especially, pythons. Africans, traditionally, sat around a fire, at nightfall, and simply looked at it, while envisioning, their hopes. They told stories, of their dreams, when the night was cool, and a breeze, was blowing. They projected, their nightmares, onto water bodies, and to this day, most Africans, have a fear, of water bodies. Thats African spirituality, in a nutshell. Projecting things, onto the elements, make their possibility, of happening, very real, if one, is in a void like, environment. It is very easy, to program oneself, with just about any belief, when one, is in a void, or in the, African night (no electricity).

African Initiatives: NGO's, Africaid and biblical groups

African spirituality, today, is very much, a dead tradition. Africans, don't practise, this stuff, anymore really. African spirituality, more than African religion, defined Africans, as a people, as a lot, of their oral culture, was based, on African spirituality. 'Indaba My Children', by Credo Mutwa, is based, on African Spirituality, and not African religion. Due to this tradition, being dead, the Africa night today, is kinda of a, scary place. People, simply just don't understand, the African night well. Due to seeing others, as strange beings, violence, is easy to erupt, on African streets, at night. To instigate anything, one simply, has to make, a false move, which is misinterpreted, by a second, or third party, and violence, easily erupts. To really survive, in the African night, one has to have, a strong sense, of smell. Thats kinda how, African animals, in the night, move; they leave behind, a scent. African dogs, are more than others, likely, to run around, pissing all over. Ones sense of smell, easily allows one, to sense danger, when near. In order, to deal with this culture of violence, that easy erupts, in African nights, African newspapers, have a started a trend, of scapegoating people, in an attempt, to create civility. African newspapers, simply tell the masses, that certain areas, of their city, are violent, as are, certain people. Its not true; it simply makes people, feel safe. A continuation, of the African tradition, of telling, scary stories. African newspapers, are filled, with nonsense. In the African night, when people, begin experiencing, feelings, of being lost, due to being, in a void of sorts, they also, very much, begin, to become criminal, due mainly, to lost hopes. African crime, is different, from other crime, out there, as it is very much, family centered. African families, go after each other, in the African night.

When night falls, in Africa, things change, drastically. In most other parts, of the world out there, night fall, signifies, a quieting, of the day culture. In Africa, night fall, signifies, the birth, of a whole new culture. A culture, not driven by Sidney Sheldon [day culture], but one, driven, by the likes, of James Hardley Chase, the Hardy boys, Nancy Drew, and Agatha Christie. A culture, of murder-mystery. Africans, in the urban areas, due to feeling lost, become hustlers, of all kinds; from pimps, to thugs. It is then, they often go, after each others throats, driven primarily, by what, Sigmund Freud, called, the Pleasure Principle. They hate their lives, feel lost, and seek to feel good, about themselves, by hustling, their own families, or simply, engaging, in street violence. In the old days, Africans, had a family culture, based around, material goods. Good material goods; indian spices, musical instruments, Middle Eastern rugs, American books [serious books; economics, cookery and the likes]. They kinda, simply enjoyed themselves, and kept very much, to themselves too. Everybody, had their own stuff. They also, had a socializing culture, made up, of what, some call, partying. Partying, was best explained, by Lionel Richie, in the song, "All night long" [a monster hit in Africa], and the words, "feel good, feel good". All that collapsed, and Africans, began engaging, in a family culture, of robbing each other, off, material goods. If you own, anything good in Africa, you best, lock it up, after every time, you use it. You can't leave, things, lying around, in Africa, for even a second. Instead of partying, Africans, embarked, on a culture, of thievery, which basically, constituted, making others, feel bad. Understanding all this, is the basis, of knowing, why Africans, live, as they do; poor materiality, and negative habits. Africans today, will not own much, due to a fear, of being robbed, by family members. Africans tend, to engage, in negative habits, like scratching, nose picking, ear picking, prostitution, fighting, in a bid, to feel good, about themselves. Freud, Sigmund, called this, being anal retentive.

The ending result, to all this, has been a culture, an urban culture, night culture, that has led, to the decay, of African cities. When most hear, of the ills, of urban centers, they are really, referring, to Africa. Unknown to many, the night culture, of urban centers, around the world, has been a creation, of African immigrants. From the red district, in Amsterdam [which is driven by Africans], to Tokyos, crime driven, Shibuya district. Its African night urban culture, out there. Urban decay, in Africa, has led, Africans, of all kinds, to flee, African cities. In Africa, whatever, is built, during the day, is very much destroyed, at night. This is where, the confusion, on how, to develop Africa, begins. Many have heard, the words, NGO, Africaid, and associate them, with Africa. They however, mistakenly, believe, all this, to be about, developing, Africas rural areas. They fail to realize, that it is really, about, settling people, who have fled, the cities. There are Africans out there, who would rather live, in a mud hut, or in an area, without water, than live, in an African city, with its sporadic, untimed violence. You could die, at any minute, in an African city, at night. It is why, Africa, has a low, Average Life Expectancy. If you live, in Africas rural areas, you can get, to live, to be a hundred. In African cities, you are lucky, to get, to be 40. Africans, are today, highly religious, due to the African night life. They love religions, that promise, to save, and deliver them, from hell.
